Assessment in Middle School Art 1 focuses on growth, effort, and understanding rather than artistic talent. Our approach emphasizes process over product, encouraging risk-taking and creative exploration while building foundational skills.

Portfolio Requirements & Guidelines

Required Components:
  • Cover Page: Name, class, year with creative design
  • Table of Contents: Organized by six-week periods/units
  • Artist Statement: Personal reflection on artistic growth
  • Best Work Samples: 2-3 pieces per six-week period
  • Process Documentation: Sketches, photos, notes
  • Reflection Sheets: Learning documentation
Portfolio Assessment Criteria:
  • Organization: Clear, logical arrangement
  • Growth Documentation: Evidence of skill development
  • Reflection Quality: Thoughtful analysis of learning
  • Completion: All required components included
  • Presentation: Professional, neat appearance
